i’ve just had a terrible idea

i present to you the mona lisa:

ok so, for the last few hours i’ve been making this code that organizes the colors in drawings:

(mostly @metukika’s bc her works look really dope and i don’t have many like that ;_;)

and these things feel like something that would be sold as a “deconstruction of classical paintings” like the “the kiss” by Klimt, “starry night” by Van Gogh or “Girl with a pearl earing” by vermeer

i can imagine going to an art gallery and finding stuff like this, made by someone who thinks they are so so smart

Ok but this is actually phenomenally cool OP, and a terrific tool for explaining some of the weirder aspects of color theory, especially how to translate color from traditional media to digital.

I’m working on the teaching plan for a digital painting class I’m going to pitch to my illustration school, and I was wondering if you had something I could use to show this concept to the class? (In exchange for full credit and money of course)

The Creator’s Guide to Comics Devices is OPEN!!!
comicsdevices.com

An online library of visual-narrative devices that are used in the medium of comics and other sequential art.

Happy Halloween! I’m really excited to be finally launching* what is maybe one of my most ambitious, largest work yet.
This online library is the next phase of a research project that began in May 2020, when I first mused on how comics as a field doesn’t have a resource that catalogues devices used in the medium. Like, theatre has devices, so does literature, and film! So why shouldn’t comics?

I always had an interest in comics studies and analysis. I love reading, making and thinking comics. However most of my knowledge was intuitive - I learned comics from osmosis and experience. This is true for many of my peers. Speaking about comics as a creator is hard, because we don’t have a robust system of language. When we had to speak, many of us tend to reach for the language developed for film by film practitioners. If there is language specific to comics, it’s either scattered in multiple blogs or hidden away in academic journals.

The Comics Devices library is meant to aggregate everything and everybody into a single hub! After exploring some multiple resources, alongside some original, independent research, here is the first edition!

* The Comics Devices project is still a work-in-progress! It’s not final, nor will it ever be. This is why I am seeking contributors to help build this library. Translations, comics examples, etc. There is a lot of work to do! If you are interested, reply to this post or submit an expression of interest on this page.

Have fun everyone!!

“both sides are suffering” really? because one is buried under rubble without any access to food, water, sanitation products, no fuel for ambulances, no electricity to support incubators for preterm babies, no proper beds or equipment for major surgeries, using vinegar as disinfectant, relying on phone lights to operate, has run out of body bags, had their largest bakery which received humanitarian aid bombed immediately after while the other is dancing and feasting and rejoicing and making tiktoks in clean clothes and brightly-lit rooms with electricity…

The professionalism and confidence really sell me but I’m still left wondering about some of the highly specific benefits. Was the Titty Cream the same substance as the Ear Cream…? How do you benefit from the green potion on the back of the head ONLY. And so on.

transcript & full thread - from twitter user @ LunaOi_VN.

Reading about survivors in Gaza digging through rubble with their bare hands hits very close to home for Vietnamese. This is exactly what happened to our people during 10 years of indiscriminate carpet bombing of our people. End these GENOCIDAL war crimes NOW!

(Nested thread is as follows)

What is it like for children to be carpet bombed? Every Vietnamese person has knowledge of this, because we all have family and friends who lived through it. Here is some perspective from people in my life, as 1 million children of Gaza are indiscriminately bombed.

[Photo - Vietnamese civilians carrying bodies from the rubble of an American bombing raid on civilians.]

My mother was a school child when Americans relentlessly bombed her village for years. She tells stories of children she played with dying, of running from class to hide in ditches during air raids. To this day, she has panic attacks whenever she hears an airplane in the sky.

An old lady who runs a cafe I used to go to in Hanoi was a little girl during the war. One of her stories still haunts me:

One day she walked to school and saw a boy from her village. She waved to him as a dog ran by. Out of nowhere, a bomb exploded, she was dazed. Suddenly, there were chunks of gore everywhere. Her first thought was: she couldn’t tell what was the dog and what was her friend.

Here is another true story from Nguyen Van Cau, a victim of the US bombing in Kham Thien, Hanoi in 1972, when he was 35 years old:

“One morning, I was informed that the bombing had stopped, so I hurriedly rode my bicycle home. From the outside of Kham Thien street at that time, it looked like only a few houses were destroyed by bombs…“

"But when I turned down the street to San Quan alley, the scene of desolation appeared in front of my eyes. Dozens of houses were flattened in a carpet-bomb trail from the beginning of O Cho Dua street to Hang Co station."

"Broken bricks and tiles were everywhere, many houses were still burning, smoke was rising.

In that silent mourning scene, occasional cries could be heard. Torn and bloody hands rummaged through the rubble looking for the bodies of their loved ones."

"I was shocked to see that the shelter for civillians was hit by a bomb. Nearly 50 people lived in one block of town and none of them survived."

"My wife was cut in half by a bomb, and my 11-year-old son was buried in a collapsed cellar. It took nearly two months to find my brother because he was buried deep under bricks and stones.”

Remember these stories as genocidal bombing is called for by Western imperialists against 1 million children (kids=50% of Gaza) in one of the most densely popuated places on Earth. It pains me to see that nothing was learned in the West from our long, brutal suffering in Vietnam.

Here is my video on the carpet bombing of Hanoi. Everyone should be required to learn this history, one of the great shames of the 20th century, which is now being repeated. Imagine a 9/11 every day for years on end. That is what Vietnam suffered through.

my advice for not going insane? try to do something every weekend. go to events, you’ll love events. and not like just hang out with ur friends or go clubbing , no, make a day out of going to some local market by yourself or attend some strange convention event you’ve never heard of. i cannot stress the importance of doing random events on a friday night or saturday or a sunday at r pm for mentally ill people especially if you’re depressed and have been searching for an anchor 2 tether yourself to. attend some events now
